OP Christmas Drop 2017 (1.23 mins)
From 6-16 December 2017, the Royal Australian Air Force joined the United States Air Force and Japan Air Self-Defense Force for Operation Christmas Drop 17, the world’s longest running humanitarian airdrop mission. Launching from Andersen Air Force Base in Guam, C-130 Hercules transports from all three countries will airdrop up to 100 loads by parachute to remote island communities across the west Pacific, including non-perishable food, toys, fishing equipment, and clothing. Beginning in 1952, Operation Christmas Drop delivers to islands over an area of six million square kilometres, and is an opportunity for Hercules crews from all three countries to jointly plan and execute airlift missions.
