Operation Indonesia Assist (1.8 mins)

The Australian Defence Force supported a whole of Australian Government effort to deliver humanitarian aid to Indonesia following an earthquake and tsunami that struck the island of Sulawesi on 28 September 2018. The relief included 'Family Kits' which contain kitchen items, a hygiene kit, bed nets, blankets and sleeping mats, a toolkit, and tarpaulins. A Royal Australian Air Force C-130 Hercules aircraft transported the first delivery of essential supplies on 4 October 2018. A Royal Australian Air Force C-17 Globemaster aircraft arrived in Balikpapan, Indonesia on 7 October 2018 with 16 further pallets of humanitarian aid supplies including tents and generators. Australia will deliver more humanitarian aid and continue to work closely with the Indonesian Government to help those affected by this tragedy. To date, Australia has committed over $10.25 million to support the Indonesian Government and humanitarian partners in the tsunami and earthquake relief response.
