Exercise Bushido Guardian 2019 - RAAF and Japan pilots exchange aircraft (0.58 mins)
The RAAF deployed six F/A-18A/B Classic Hornets from 77SQN to Japan for Exercise Bushido Guardian 19 (BG19) from 11 September to 08 October 2019, conducting the first ever bilateral air combat exercise hosted by the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF). Conducted primarily from JASDF bases in Chitose and Misawa, BG19 involved participants from RAAF Air Combat, Air Mobility, Surveillance and Response and Combat Support Groups exercising alongside Japanese counterparts. BG19 provided a number of training opportunities between the JASDF and RAAF including air combat tactics and manoeuvre and further enhanced the relationship between Australia and Japan. Throughout Exercise Bushido Guardian, aircrew from the RAAF and Koku-Jieitai conducted exchange flights between the F/A-18 and F-15 fighter jets. These exchange rides allowed pilots to feel and experience the capability of each other’s jets first hand in the air.
