Exercise Bushido Guardian RAAF and JASDF Cultural Exchange (0.35 mins)
The RAAF deployed six F/A-18A/B Classic Hornets from 77SQN to Japan for Exercise Bushido Guardian 19 (BG19) from 11 September to 08 October 2019, conducting the first ever bilateral air combat exercise hosted by the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF). Conducted primarily from JASDF bases in Chitose and Misawa, BG19 involved participants from RAAF Air Combat, Air Mobility, Surveillance and Response and Combat Support Groups exercising alongside Japanese counterparts. BG19 provided a number of training opportunities between the JASDF and RAAF including air combat tactics and manoeuvre and further enhanced the relationship between Australia and Japan. Throughout BG19, RAAF and Koku-Jieitai personnel shared their culture with one another. Formal activities included a tour of the 77SQN Worimi jet, RAAF vs JASDF touch football game and a community rubbish clean up. A fun wasabi vs vegemite challenge also took place between the 77SQN WOE and Chitose Base WOFF.
